Are you coming to visit us during the holidays? Why not go big this time and order a true feast for yourself and your company? But how can you give your Kantjil visit just that extra bit of festive sparks? We asked manager Steven to describe his ultimate Christmas dinner. Keep on reading and take benefit.
Tips for a never-to-be-forgotten Christmas dinner at Kantjil
It all starts with the perfect spot. According to Steven the best table for four is to be found near the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. This spot is quiet, however, it has a nice overview of the restaurant. Are you only two? Then Steven recommends a small round table in the front of the restaurant. “Nice and quiet”.
The aperitif: Mama Djahé
Once you’ve taken your seat, it’s time for the aperitif. Steven’s favourite is the Mama Djahé, a gin tonic with a tropical twist. Think of ingredients like lemongrass, ginger, lime and lime leaves.
The Dinner
For starters the classic Soto Ajam is a great tip. But it is only after that, that the real party is about to go off: the Rijsttafel. You can choose one of the set menus, but you can also compose a custom Rijsttafel. These are the dishes to order during Steven’s ultimate Christmas dinner:
- Nasi Koening
- Saté Oedang
- Saté Kambing
- Pepesan Oedang
- Pepesan Djamoer
- Ajam Panggang Ketjap Pedis
- Sambal Goreng Laboe Siam
- Sambal Goreng Terong
- Orak Arik
- Atjar Ketimoen
What to drink during your Kantjil Christmas dinner?
Complete your Christmas dinner with a good bottle of wine. Steven’s top choice? A Verdejo from Rueda from winehouse Marquès de Riscal.
For dessert
Steven’s number one dessert is the Oriënt Express. This might not be the dessert you expected on an Indonesian menu, but it is quite good – though we say it ourselves. Your Indonesian layercake is not cut in slices this time around. No, you will find tiny dices in a glass together with (a lot) of chocolate and mascarpone. More of a digestifs kinda person? Pick your favourite kind of coffee alongside a Licor 43.
